Hi,
Spring is always an energizing time of year. This spring is exceptionally energizing. It feels like we are beginning to see the light at the end of the pandemic (at least in the United States). At the church, our remodel is moving toward a conclusion. Energizing indeed!
On April 24, we will host our first indoor worship service in our building in over a year. I am beyond thrilled that our first worship service in our newly remodeled sanctuary coincides with our 100th anniversary. What a bit of beautiful providence!
I hope you can join us as we celebrate our 100th anniversary and rededicate our church. We will have an indoor church service at 9:30 AM and an outdoor church at 11:00 AM. Outdoor children's Sabbath school is at 9:30 AM. We will have indoor and outdoor adult Sabbath schools at 9:30 and 11:00 AM. After the second service, we will have a vegetarian barbeque. Unfortunately, the pandemic isn't over, so things won't look exactly like they did before. Face coverings and check-in will still be required.
During the pandemic, many of our members have understandably kept their distance from in-person worship. Our small group ministry effectively shut down. Separation from friends, family, and the church community has been almost unbearable. The sense of loss and absence this year has been palpable. This has caused me to reflect on the purpose of the church.
Through the love of God, the grace of Christ, and the power of the Holy Spirit, the church is a diverse community that loves and serves one another. In the church, our faith is nurtured, our families strengthened, and we learn how to live in the light of the self-sacrificing generosity God has lavished upon us. God has called us to more than just living in community. He has called us to extend this beautiful community.
Over the last few weeks, our nation has been devastated by anti-Asian violence, mass shootings, police shootings, and the ever-present heartbreaking news of a disordered world on its last gasps.
Now more than ever, we need the gospel. Now more than ever, the world needs a model of a healthy community. My prayer and hope is that God will fill our community with the beauty we see in the story of Jesus.
Kemy Ogendi wrote a song called Winter. It embodies the hope and expectation I feel this spring. She sings,
Winter didn't last, the coldest months have passed
Time will heal our bumps and bruises
Mend the broken parts, oh oh
Mend the broken parts
Winter didn't last, the shadow's time has passed
Light will fill the skies above us
Chase away the dark, oh oh
Chase away the dark
So, hold on, hold on, my dear
For it won't be long, my dear
Morning comes at last, the longest nights will pass
Love will soothe our restless souls and
Heal the aching hearts
Heal the aching hearts
So don't you dare give up, my dear!
Your redemption is so near!
So, hold on, hold on, my dear
For it won't be long, my dear
In Hope, Nathan

Hi,
And so we have come to the end of our study in the Gospel of John.
It’s hard to believe that we are here! Pastor Nathan started this series months before I arrived in this wonderful church community and we have been making our way through (with a few breaks along the way) ever since. There have been so many insights and so many beautiful pictures of Jesus, of God’s love made flesh. I hope that you have seen new aspects of God’s love for you and for the rest of the world as well!
So what last words does John have to share with us? With what does he choose to conclude the final Gospel?
Join us this Sabbath in-person, or online, as we spend time in community and reflect on the messages of John 21. We will see what last words John has for us about Jesus, the Word who was with God from the very beginning.
Blessings,
Pastor Danita

Hi,
Sometimes life feels like a war zone. The heartbreaking reason it feels like a war zone is because it is a war zone. The forces of good and evil are raging all around us, and we find ourselves caught in the crossfire.
Sometimes the war is in our home. Other times it is at work or in our community. We see the battle play out in the broader society. We see it in the heartless murder of those who are different from us. We see it in ourselves when our nobler impulses win the day or when we find ourselves fighting on the wrong side.
In this war, there stands one who never fought for the wrong - Somebody who always pursued truth, justice, and mercy. His name is Jesus. His character's beauty was on full display when He, an innocent man, died on the cross. There He displayed the glory of God. Not a resplendent glory that dazzled the senses, but a humble glory that captivates the heart.
In this war zone, it is my hope and prayer that the glory of our self-sacrificing God will captivate our hearts and minds that with Him, we might pursue truth, justice, and mercy.
Courage,
Nathan

Hi,
Can you believe our church has been serving the Sonora community for 100 years? We were organized on April 24, 1921. We hope to rededicate our remodeled church on April 24, 2021. That should be an exciting day!
This Sabbath, we are meeting outside at 9:30 AM for Sabbath School and 11:00 AM for our worship service. I hope you can join us.
Over the last several weeks, our church has been hit very hard with a number of our members passing to their rest. If you haven't attended our in-person services, you may have missed the notices. Sadly, we have lost Alice and Jason Hobbs, Chet Cunnington, Norma Davies, Wilbur Hightower, Leon Grabow, and Elinore Burns. Please keep their families in your prayers.
We look forward to the blessed hope of the glorious return of Jesus when we can all be united again.
Maranatha!
Nathan

Hi,
Things are coming together in the sanctuary. The pews are now in place. I think the sanctuary looks absolutely gorgeous. The decorating team and interior decorator knocked it out of the park. Despite the progress on the remodel, we are still meeting outside. It looks like the weather is going to be lovely tomorrow. I hope you can join us.

Hi,
One hundred fifty-one people gathered for outdoor worship on February 6th. I was blessed beyond measure by the singing and fellowship (I'll leave it to someone else to comment on the preaching). Last week we worshiped indoors because of the weather. Most of the 151 people decided to stay home. Who could blame them? Right now, indoor gatherings are forbidden from singing. Gathering without singing is a real bummer.
Good news! This week it looks like the weather will hold, and we can worship outdoors. Covid case counts have dropped precipitously from daily highs in the 40,000's to 7,500 cases per day this last week. It looks like enough people have immunity that we are moving toward something like a brighter future. I hope you continue to be vigilant in your hand hygiene and masking. If you're comfortable, we look forward to seeing you in person tomorrow.
I also want to let you know that Don Muir’s memorial service will be indoors in the sanctuary Sabbath at 2:00 PM.
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” Romans 15:13

Hi,
We are now permitted to hold worship services indoors at 25 percent capacity. It will rain tomorrow, so this couldn't have happened to us at a better time.
I'm comfortable holding an indoor service because more and more people in our community have immunity, whether through vaccination or exposure to the virus. Of course, we will still practice social distancing and will require masks. If you have any feeling of sickness at all, catch our online service.
If you aren't vaccinated, it may still be a good idea for you to worship with us online until the rain goes away and we worship outside again. Just because we can worship inside doesn't necessarily mean it is a good idea for everyone to be there. Covid-19 is still dangerous, and it is impossible to predict perfectly who will be devastated by it and who will be asymptomatic.
If you're vaccinated, young and healthy, we would love to see you in person. If you're not vaccinated and in poor health, we would love to see you too, but maybe you should wait until the weather is better and we worship outside. It is just safer.
Be smart, stay healthy, and I look forward to seeing you soon.

Happy Sabbath,
After a rainy week, it looks to be a dry weekend. That means we will be holding an in-person, outdoor church. We will meet for Sabbath School at 10:00 AM, and the worship service will get started at about 11:00 AM. If you’re comfortable, we would love to have you. If you aren’t comfortable, I invite you to join us online at 9:30 AM for Sabbath School. The links are below. Our online worship service begins at 11:00 AM. Check us out on Facebook and YouTube.
On another note, the lighting is finished in the sanctuary, and the carpet is about 99% complete. The church looks fantastic! Be well,
Pastor Nathan
Announcements and Info
- Church Business Meeting postponed to February 28
- Covid vaccines will be available for 75+ and older on January 30 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. at the fairgrounds. They need to verify your age and appointments available on the website.
Www.Adventisthealth.org/Sonora/patient-resources/ Covid-19-vaccine/ - The Central California Conference of Seventh-day Adventists is canceling its in-person July 2021 Soquel Camp Meeting and the following in-person ministries for the 2021 summer season: Wawona Summer Camp and Teen Bible Academy. As for our Youth Rush Literature Ministry, we are looking to implement a safe and effective modified program (subject to the lifting of current regulations in California, and if that is not available then to partner with one of our Seventh-day Adventist Conferences in another state). These actions were made with much consideration for the health and safety of our children, young people, and members of various communities as we face the ongoing challenges of the global Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Happy Sabbath, My grandmother wasn't an active follower of Jesus for most of her life. As she neared the end, she made peace with God. When my mother asked her about how she was with God, grandma replied, "I'm safe in the arms of Jesus." No matter what is going on in your life or the world around you, you are safe if you are in Jesus' arms. He has conquered death and has promised to come again and restore all things. However great the loss or setback, Jesus' grace much more abounds (see Romans 5).
